Department of History
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in history is designed for
students with a variety of personal, professional, and career goals. It equips the student
for admission to professional and graduate schools leading to careers in teaching, law,
journalism, the religious ministry, and administration.
As a program of study, history provides the student with a way of thinking about the human
experience in time. History helps the student to reason systematically, to examine
critically the relationships among people and events, and to reach thoughtful judgments
about human affairs.
Expected Outcomes
Graduates will demonstrate:
- A general knowledge of American and world history
- An awareness of varied historical interpretations
- The ability to conduct historical research
- The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing
